Prospective PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers
Prospective PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers are encouraged to apply for open vacancies. For international candidates, it is noteworthy that it is the norm in the Netherlands to directly apply for a PhD position as it becomes advertised. This procedure is in contrast with some countries (e.g., US, Canada, UK) where you apply to a university or graduate school with a set annual deadline.
Keep an eye on this page and the Academic Transfer website for the latest vacancies.
Vanessa's mentoring philosophy
Choosing a supervisor is a critical step towards a fulfilling and successful PhD/postdoc journey. I believe that finding a match with your research interests, work style, and the work culture in our group is just as important as the project itself.Â
My mentoring philosophy is centered around providing a supportive and inclusive environment that allows you to carry out your research effectively and to grow both professionally and personally. I am committed to providing the guidance and resources needed to help you to achieve your best work and to develop your scientific thinking, experimental design, and communication skills. I am invested in your success and well-being, both physical and mental.
Beyond your time in our group, I am also committed to your career development. I will actively connect you with my network and provide opportunities for you to develop the skills you need for your next job. As your supervisor, I maintain an overall view of our field and will be happy to provide my perspective on the direction of our group and the field in general.
