Demi Vogels
PhD candidateDemi is a PhD student with a background and interest in the use of molecular mechanisms to improve human health and disease. Her current project focuses on developing a scleral crosslinking treatment to arrest myopia, a condition that causes near-sightedness and can lead to blindness in working-age adults. The treatment, which mechanically strengthens the weakened part of the eye without surgery, will be optimized and characterized on ex vivo eye tissue before being assessed for safety and efficacy in a pre-clinical trial using a myopic small animal.
Outside of the lab, Demi enjoys running outdoors, working out in the gym, and attending music festivals.
